It also has half the world's perched lakes - lakes formed when depressions in dunes fill permanently with rainwater.

North Stradbroke Island or Straddie is a sub-tropical island and the second largest sand island in the world. Its located 30 km southeast of Brisbane and is about 38 km long and 11 km wide. From amazing bush walks to visiting stunning fresh-water lakes, from beautiful gorges to up-close wild-life experiences this island has its all.
